Performance Scholarship Guidelines

Three scholarships will be awarded in this category.

The emphasis during the audition should be on presentation and performance.

You may use two straight chairs and one small table. You may not use additional set pieces, hand props or costumes.

CANDIDATES SHOULD DRESS WITH A POLISHED, PROFESSIONAL APPEARANCE. JEANS, SANDALS, FLIP-FLOPS SNEAKERS, MINISKIRTS AND SOLID BLACK ARE NOT ALLOWED!

The candidate’s introduction should ONLY include their name, school and titles & authors of the selections.

All auditions must be solo presentations. Other students may not perform with the auditioning candidate.

All auditions will be a maximum of three (3) minutes. If the candidate exceeds this limit disqualification will result. Time will begin after the introduction of the selection.

The candidate must thoroughly prepare two (2) contrasting selections from plays. Plays must be from published theatrical literature only! A song and/or dance may be performed as one of the selections. Material (music or script) must be drawn from published scripts written for theatre. Works from other forms such as film, poetry, fiction or standard popular song lyric/instrumental are not permitted. If such a musical audition is planned a backing track or pianist must be used. The total time limit for presentation remains a total of three (3) minutes.

THESE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE GIVEN TO DESERVING CANDIDATES AS DETERMINED BY THE JUDGES. IT IS TO THE JUDGE’S DISCRETION IF THE SCHOLARSHIPS SHOULD BE AWARDED. If there is only one candidate in Performance Scholarship, it does not necessitate an immediate scholarship to that candidate.
Eligibility for Performance Scholarships

The student must be a senior in a Louisiana high school scheduled to graduate by Spring 2025.

The student must be an inducted thespian with the International Thespian Society (ITS) by the Festival deadline. Scholarship money will not be awarded to non-thespians. The student must be in good standing with the ITS and Louisiana Thespians.

The student must have a minimum overall grade point average (high school) of 2.00, verified by an authorized school representative.

The student must plan to major or minor in Theatre or Communications.

The student must be a registered thespian at the Louisiana State Conference and attend the entire State Festival.

The student must be auditioned and interviewed by a panel of college judges and ITS representatives.

Submit all required materials (with Troupe’s Registration) by the announced deadline.

$20.00 (non-refundable) scholarship application fee submitted to LA Thespians.

The student recognizes the deadline for submission of all scholarship materials is Monday, January 4, 2021
Technical Guidelines
THESPIAN TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE: December 22, 2023
Technical Scholarship Guidelines

One $700.00 Scholarship will be awarded in this category.

The emphasis during the interview will be on the candidate’s presentation of their experience as listed on their resume, and the degree of technical knowledge in the areas of proficiency.

Technical portfolios/documentation should be presented, which include supporting materials such as designs, sketches, photos, programs.

CANDIDATES SHOULD DRESS WITH A POLISHED, PROFESSIONAL APPREARANCE. JEANS, SANDELS, FLIP-FLOPS SNEAKERS, MINISKIRTS AND SOLID BLACK ARE NOT ALLOWED.

Five (5) minutes will be allowed for your presentation.

Candidate’s Introduction must include only the candidate’s name and school.
